Privacy

Just the song, nothing about you.

Adlib has no account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. This page says exactly what it reads, what leaves your Mac, and what it keeps. Last updated October 2, 2026.

What Adlib reads on your Mac

With the Automation permission you grant in macOS, Adlib asks Apple Music and Spotify for the title, artist and length of the playing song, whether it's playing, and how far in it is. It doesn't read your library, playlists or listening history, and it never controls playback. You can take this permission back any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation; Adlib then stops reading that app.

What leaves your Mac

• To find lyrics, the song's title and artist go to LRCLIB, a free community lyrics database.
• For a Spotify song, the cover is downloaded from Spotify's image server, at the address Spotify gives.
• To find any other cover, such as an Apple Music song's, the title and artist go to Apple's iTunes Search, with your Mac's region so it searches your country's store.

These are ordinary HTTPS requests, so each of those services sees your IP address, as any website would. Apart from the daily check of the copy sold on this website (below), Adlib sends nothing else.

What Adlib keeps

Only your settings (colors, blur, artwork, launch at login) and whether you've played a song with it yet, on your Mac. Lyrics and covers are kept in memory while a song plays and never written to disk. Nothing is stored anywhere else.

If you buy on this website

Checkout is run by Paddle, our reseller. Paddle collects your payment details; we never see them. From Paddle we get your email address, country and what you bought, to make your license key and to answer you if you write to us. Your license key contains your email address and order number, and Adlib checks it on your Mac. Once a day, the copy of Adlib from this website asks this site whether a newer version is out, and sends your order number (not your email) to our license server, which asks Paddle whether the purchase was refunded.

This website

The site is hosted on Google Firebase and its fonts come from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address when you visit. If you arrive from a link, your browser keeps where the link was (a word like "reddit", or the linking site's name), and if you then buy, that word goes along with the purchase, so we know which posts help. Nothing else about your visit is kept or sent.
